FLECHE WALLONNE 2026 THE DETOUR BETTING PREVIEW

The Mur waits for no one

Fleche is the cruel one. Not the longest, not the wildest, not the most chaotic. It is simply the most honest. A race that strips every rider down to their VO2 max and whatever demons they brought with them. No bluffing. No hiding. No saving it for the sprint. Just the Mur de Huy, three times, and the truth.

And this year’s market is a beautiful mess.

THE FAVOURITE PAUL SEIXAS 1.72

The bookmakers have gone all in. Seixas at $1.72 is their way of saying they have seen enough and he is the chosen one.

Fair enough. He has been climbing like a man who is allergic to oxygen but addicted to winning. His punch is violent, his positioning is clean, and he carries the exact Mur profile that usually ends with a camera in his face and a soigneur trying to keep him upright.

But Fleche belongs to specialists and Seixas has not earned that badge yet. He can win. Absolutely. But at this price you are paying for perfection.

THE REAL THREATS LENNY MARTINEZ 6.00 AND KEVIN VAUQUELIN 9.00

Lenny Martinez 6.00

A tiny frame with a giant engine. Lenny is built for the Mur like it was designed specifically to torment him. He is the purest climber in the top bracket and the one rider Seixas does not want beside him at the red kite. If the pace is nuclear early, Lenny becomes the problem.

Kevin Vauquelin 9.00

The most complete rider in the top three. He can climb, he can surge, he can suffer, and he reads races better than people realise. If the favourites hesitate for even half a pedal stroke, Vauquelin is the one who punishes them.

THE VALUE ZONE SKJELMOSE 7.50 AND COSNEFROY 15.00

Mattias Skjelmose 7.50

He has been simmering. Not boiling, not exploding, just simmering. Fleche is exactly the kind of race where simmering turns into a full rolling boil. He has the punch, the repeatability, and the arrogance required to win here. A very fair number.

Benoit Cosnefroy 15.00

Cosnefroy is the eternal Fleche tease. Always close, always threatening, always one gear short. But 15.00 is generous for a rider who knows this race like a childhood street. If the Mur is ridden at a tempo instead of a death march, he is suddenly in the conversation.

THE CHAOS BRACKET THIRTY FOUR TO ONE HUNDRED AND ONE

Tobias Halland Johannessen 34.00

If he wakes up on a good day he is a podium lock. If he wakes up on a bad day he is in a ditch wondering what happened. Perfect chaos energy.

Valentin Paret Peintre 41.00

Sneaky good. He has the engine and the repeatability. If the favourites mark each other into paralysis, he is the one who slips the net.

Alex Baudin 81.00

This number makes you tilt your head. He is better than 81.00. Not a winner, but a genuine top five threat.

Julian Alaphilippe 101.00

The ghost of Fleche past. He will not win, but the idea of him winning is worth the price of admission.

THE OUTRAGEOUS LONG SHOTS ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY ONE TO FIVE HUNDRED AND ONE

Mauri Vansevenant 151.00

He either detonates the race or detonates himself. No middle ground. Perfect for a speculative flutter.

Jai Hindley 151.00

The wrong race for him, but the engine is monstrous. If the pace is strange, he can podium.

Dorian Godon 201.00

If this becomes a grind instead of a punch fest, Godon becomes a real problem.

Matej Mohoric 401.00

This number is comedy. He should not win Fleche, but he also should not win half the races he wins. If he finds a way to turn the Mur into a technical descent, we riot.

Edoardo Zambanini 501.00

A pure why not pick. If he finishes top ten, you get to feel like a prophet.

THE DETOUR VERDICT

Best Bet

Lenny Martinez at $6. The Mur loves a featherweight with a death wish.

Value Pick

Mattias Skjelmose at $7.50. Simmering form and a perfect profile.

Chaos Pick

Tobias Halland Johannessen at $34. The most volatile rider in the field.

Outrageous Smokey

Matej Mohoric at $401. Because Fleche deserves a villain.
