Tour de France 2026: Iffy Is Back On Tour

I can already feel the electricity in the air. This Tour has the ingredients for something unforgettable and I am heading straight into the centre of it for The Detour. I will be embedded with Team Jayco–AlUla for the entire three weeks. I will be in the buses, the hotel corridors, the warm up zones, the recovery rooms and the places where riders try to hide from cameras. You will see the real Tour from inside the machine and you will get it every single day.
This race is not easing into anything. It is loaded from the start and the storylines are already bubbling. So let us break it down properly, Detour style, with sections that flow and talking points that matter.
Key Talking Points For The 2026 Tour

Pogacar’s Fifth Title Chase
Pogacar arrives with the confidence of a rider who has already won half the season. He has raced a lot and he has raced hard. People keep asking if he has done too much. They have been asking that for years. He keeps proving them wrong. He is chasing a fifth yellow jersey and he is riding with the relaxed menace of someone who knows exactly how to win this race.

Vingegaard’s Giro Tour Gamble
Vingegaard is attempting the Giro Tour double. Modern cycling science says this is impossible. Jonas walked the Giro with a level of control that made everyone nervous. The question is whether he can carry that form into July. If he can, we get a rivalry that will define the era. If he cannot, Pogacar will sense it and the entire race will tilt.
Remco’s Volatility And The Fear It Creates
Remco Evenepoel is the rider who makes every team director whisper in corners. He can win the Tour in a single stage and he can lose it just as quickly. He has shaped his entire season around July and removed every distraction. The Tour is not about brilliance. It is about surviving the days when your legs feel heavy and your mind starts to wander. Remco will give us moments that make the world gasp and moments that make directors throw water bottles at walls.

France’s New Obsession
Paul Seixas is nineteen and rides with the fearlessness of someone who has not yet learned how cruel the Tour can be. The French media has already crowned him as the next great hope. There are talks of rival team offers of 13 million Euro to get him away from Decathlon. He will not win this year. He will absolutely do something that sends the country into a frenzy. When he does, I will be there in the middle of it with a camera and a few questions in a busted french accent.

The Route That Wants To Break Riders
Barcelona will explode with colour and noise. The Pyrenees arrive early and they will punish anyone who tries to ease into the race. Bastille Day will be a festival of long range attacks and desperate chases. The organisers have saved their most dramatic idea for the final act. Two finishes on Alpe d’Huez in two days. It is not a bike race. It is a test of nerve and patience. If Pogacar and Vingegaard arrive close on time, those two days will become the most watched mountain battle in years.
The Sprinters And The Stage Hunters
Philipsen will want to dominate. Merlier will want to prove a point. Girmay will want to show that last season was only the beginning. Mads Pedersen will win the stages that confuse everyone. Van der Poel will create chaos whenever he feels like it. Ben Healy will attack from distances that make other riders question their life choices. Jayco will be in the mix on every terrain. Matthews will sniff out the tricky days. The young riders will chase breaks. The team will have chances everywhere and I will be right beside them capturing every moment.
John’s Mission On The Ground
This year The Detour is not just covering the Tour. We are living it. You will get daily Jayco stories. You will get the moments that never make the broadcast. You will get the laughs, the tension, the tired faces at breakfast and the celebrations that happen behind closed doors. You will get the real Tour and you will get it every day.
I will be everywhere I should not be. I will ask questions nobody else will ask. I will stir the pot in ways that will probably get me told off by at least three team directors before we reach the Pyrenees. And Dan will turn all of it into premium Detour gold.
