STAGE 5 GIRO PREVIEW

The Oracle Era Begins

Stage 4 has rewritten the internal power structure of Detour HQ in a way that nobody could have predicted. The Young Bucks have gone from hopeful dreamers to a fully cashed up betting syndicate with a balance that now sits at $620 from an opening balance of $500.

Angus has finally understood the importance of having Dan on the team and has spent most of the morning walking around the office with the expression of a man who has just discovered a new religion.

Iffy has entered full damage control mode and has been trying to convince anyone who will listen that he saw it coming. John has been pretending to stay calm while quietly refreshing the odds every few minutes. Meanwhile Dan has taken his rightful place on the throne with the calm certainty of a man who has already seen the outcome and is simply waiting for everyone else to catch up.

Stage 5 is here and the oracle has spoken.

THE DETOUR SHORTLIST

Three Categories. Three Riders Each. Real Odds. Real Insight.

Genuine Contenders

These are the riders who match the terrain, the form and the tactical shape of Stage 5. They are the names that appear in every serious preview and the ones the supercomputer keeps circling.

Jhonatan Narváez 8.00   Narváez is the most complete rider in the market for this profile. He can climb, he can sprint from a reduced group and he can win from a late attack. He is the perfect blend of strength and timing and he is the pick that tells the world the oracle is not messing around.

Giulio Ciccone 12.00   Ciccone remains one of the most dangerous riders on any medium mountain day. He can attack from distance, he can shred a group on a climb and he can finish the job if the race becomes selective.

Giulio Pellizzari 21.00   Pellizzari is a climber with genuine GC upside and the kind of rider who thrives on days where the race becomes selective without turning into a full GC showdown. He can follow the strongest wheels on the climb and still have the punch to win from a small group.

Breakaway Wildcards

These are the riders who win when the favourites hesitate and the race opens the door to chaos.

Corbin Strong 81.00   Strong becomes fascinating when the break forms on rolling terrain or when the bunch refuses to fully commit. He has the resilience to survive the lumps and the speed to finish the job from a small group. He is the rider the supercomputer has flagged as the danger man if the race loses structure.

Javier Romo 15.00   A strong climber with the engine to hold off a disorganised chase. If the bunch plays games he becomes a real threat.

Andreas Leknessund 26.00   A rider who thrives on long efforts and unpredictable finales. If the move goes early he is one of the most reliable engines available.

Reduced Group Finishers

If the climbs sting but do not destroy the field these riders become the most dangerous.

Antonio Morgado 41.00   Young, efficient and capable of winning from a group of twenty. He is the data model darling for this stage.

Ben Turner 51.00   A powerful rider who can survive the climbs and still produce a strong finish. If the finale is messy he becomes a real contender.

Orluis Aular 34.00   If he survives the climbing he becomes one of the fastest riders left in the race and that makes him a genuine danger.
